The National HIV/AIDS Strategy Update

Large group of people celebratingOriginally drafted in 2010, the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) has been updated to acknowledge progress to-date and set new goals for 2020. In the five years since the strategy launched, we have seen the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), several important research and demonstration of HIV projects for treatment and prevention possibilities, the development and adoption of new testing technologies, funding increases for medication support, and some collaboration across federal agencies working to eliminate HIV.

The updated strategy sets new goals, and the four key areas of critical focus for the next five years are all areas where health centers are expected to contribute:

- Widespread testing and linkage to care
- Broad support for HIV+ care through care coordination and care management
- Viral suppression
- Access to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis.
