Federally Funded Training Center Collaborative (FTCC) to Support HIV Services

Group learningBackground: Recent HIV prevention initiatives, such as the 2015 National HIV/AIDS Strategy, the U.S. Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) High Impact HIV Prevention, and Treatment as Prevention Guidelines-- reinforced by biomedical advances in HIV testing, antiretroviral treatment, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), continue to change the way HIV prevention programs are implemented in the United States. Many federally funded training and technical assistance programs are funded to assist with these emerging needs, but as national initiatives, provider audiences and program settings converge, so too, does the national charge of training and technical assistance providers, with potential to create confusion among the national healthcare workforce. HIV/STD/HCV prevention providers in health departments, community-based organizations, and health care organizations must consequently evolve to implement new, or modify existing programs to more fully reflect these changes.

Intersecting Opportunities for Health Centers: All of these training centers work to strengthen HIV care with a biomedical prevention focus related to care coordination, retention in care, medication adherence, nPEP and PrEP implementation, and HIV/STD/HCV screening and management. In addition, program specific goals often merge among HIV/STD/HCV programs at the state and local level, involve the same target populations, and target primary care providers who are caring for the populations most at risk for HIV/STD/HCV.
