The Denver Prevention Training Center proudly partners with Denver Health’s Center for Addiction Medicine’s (CAM) training and education arm, the CAM Academy to increase knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals (front desk, administrators, clinicians) and community members to provide comprehensive trauma-responsive treatment of substance use disorders.

The CAM Academy provides training and technical assistance on comprehensive trauma-responsive substance use disorder treatment for Colorado and the surrounding regions.

This three-hour workshop will increase knowledge and skills to deliver compassionate and effective care that acknowledges and addresses the impact of trauma.
This workshop, designed for all clinical and non-clinical healthcare providers and professionals, will cover key topics such as understanding trauma and the role of protective factors, the impact of an elevated stress response on our bodies, and the influence of racism and weathering on health disparities for people of color. Participants will also identify three techniques to create a trauma-responsive care environment, promoting a supportive and healing environment for both staff and the people we serve.

This three-hour virtual instructor led course is intentionally designed to equip administrative and non-addiction focused clinical healthcare professionals and public health professionals with a foundational understanding of addiction medicine. Addiction Medicine 101 is an introductory course that provides a solid foundation in addiction medicine, to increase knowledge and skills to understand, support and advocate for individuals with substance use disorder (SUD). This course emphasizes a comprehensive approach to address the complexities of addiction and promotes compassionate care and advocacy.
Participants who complete the workshop will understand addiction as a chronic relapsing disease model (medical model), destigmatize addiction and MAT/treatment, and identify tools to help staff link patients to care.

This workshop equips addiction medicine professionals with the skills to effectively treat adolescent substance use. Led by Dr. Christian Thurstone, this workshop integrates Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Through interactive exercises and case examples, participants learn to engage adolescents with substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions.
The workshop emphasizes collaboration, integrating different modalities, and covers contingency management and medication management. impACT Training empowers professionals to make a significant impact in adolescent substance use treatment.
